Kathmandu. The Government of Bangladesh has contributed $1 million to the Prime Minister’s Natural Disaster Relief Fund of the Government of Nepal. The amount has been provided today to support the ongoing relief, rehabilitation and humanitarian efforts after the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Humayun Kabir, handed over a letter to Nepal’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanashyam Bhandari, in a letter addressed to Nepal’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

Earlier, on September 1, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Kabir had signed a condolence book at the Nepali Embassy in Dhaka expressing condolences on the Bhotekoshi flood disaster. Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman sent a message to Prime Minister Balendra Shah expressing solidarity with the Government and the people of Nepal and expressing condolences and sympathy for the victims.

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has also expressed deep sorrow and sympathy over the loss of lives and property due to the disaster in Nepal through President Ram Chandra Poudel.

On August 27, the Parliament of Bangladesh passed a condolence resolution expressing grief and sympathy for the flood victims and the disappeared. A minute’s silence was observed and prayers were also offered for the eternal peace of the departed souls. The parliament also urged the Bangladesh government to take immediate steps to provide necessary assistance to Nepal in response to the disaster.

Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman held a telephonic conversation with his Nepali counterpart Sishir Khanal on August 27 in this regard. During the talks, he assured that Bangladesh was ready to provide all possible assistance to Nepal as per the need and discussed ways to expand humanitarian assistance.
