The locals have banned the operation of big vehicles saying that the condition of the road has become fragile and risky. Som Bahadur Tamang of Marsyangdi Rural Municipality-4, Chyamche, said, “We were compelled to stop the operation of big vehicles after the road became risky affecting the daily life of the locals. We drew the attention of the people time and again, but after no heed, the operation of the road was stopped.” He said that this step was taken as the locals could not walk and run their daily lives on the route where tourists from all over the world come to the Annapurna Conservation Area.

Surya Kumari Gurung said that it is difficult to even go to the grass while driving big vehicles. He says, “We have not been able to walk on this muddy road to make a living by collecting grass. Who will solve it? It should be resolved. With this demand, we have stopped the plying of big vehicles on the road today.” Gurung said that the risk has increased as local children are not able to walk on the muddy road while going to school.

“We are in a situation where we are afraid to send our children to school. There is a concern that children will get into accidents due to slipping while driving in mud or if they will stop going to school due to mud,” Gurung said, “There is a situation that if big vehicles are driving, the road will collapse and the movement will be stopped.”

This road of Manang, which has been identified as a tourist area, is considered risky. On top of that, it is the main road for tourists and locals visiting the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACAP), which is considered to be the most dangerous in the world. Member of the House of Representatives, Tek Bahadur Gurung, said that they have been urged not to drive big vehicles on this road considering the risk of driving heavy vehicles during the rainy season.

“The road can be damaged if the vehicles are operated during the rainy season. The problems it causes should also be taken into consideration. It is not possible to reconstruct the road for a long time,” said lawmaker Gurung, adding, “We have urged the administration not to operate heavy vehicles during the rainy season as it will be difficult to transport the necessary materials for tourists and movement of locals if the road is damaged.” The administration should pay attention to this. ”

As it is raining almost daily, there is a high possibility of potholes and breakdowns while driving heavy vehicles on this road. Member of the House of Representatives, Dharma Raj KC, said that the ban on the operation of heavy vehicles on this road could be cut off with other areas of Manang if they could not pay attention during the rainy season.

This Chame-Besisahar road, which is risky at other times as well, is more sensitive during the rainy season. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the risk during the rainy season. Chief District Officer of Manang, Mukti Prasad Khanal, said that the hilly areas are at risk during the rainy season and they are prone to landslides and floods. He said, “It is not easy to open this road if the road is damaged due to traffic pressure.” However, the locals have come forward to stop it. We are coordinating. The complaints of the locals will be heard. ”

It was urged not to ply during the rainy season as there is a risk of breaking the road if the vehicles above six wheels are used during the rainy season. The administration had requested not to ply the big vehicles of the hydropower under construction here during the rainy season as the road could be damaged. In view of the risk, the Lamjung administration has been urged not to operate the road in coordination with the Dumre-Besisahar-Chame road project.
