Flood in Budhi Gandaki River damages bridges and hydropower projects in Namrung

Gorkha. Two bridges and two hydropower projects have been swept away by the floods of Budhigandaki and Therang rivers in Namrung of Chumnubri Rural Municipality-4 in northern Gorkha.

This has caused problems for the people of Chumnubri. Lakpa Dundup Lama, a local, said that two bridges and two hydropower projects on the Manaslu trekking route have been washed away by the floods.

The flood in the Therang River has washed away the bridge leading from Namrung to the Manaslu area, while the flood has also washed away the bridge in the forest below Namrung due to the increase in the flow of the Budhi Gandaki. “The floods and landslides put us at risk,” he said, “The bridge going down from the village was also taken away. We could not go anywhere.” ”

He also said that two micro-hydropower projects used by the locals were also damaged. He said, “One was a 100 kilowatt hydropower project that was recently completed at a cost of Rs 70 million and was test-run. Due to the lack of electricity, lights, communication services and all the services running on electricity have come to a standstill. After the bridge was washed away, the tourist movement of Manaslu, which was just beginning, has been affected.

According to the police, the flood along with the landslide swept away the houses of four locals at night. According to the District Police Office, Gorkha, the flood swept away the houses of locals Nurbu Ongyal, Orgen Chhyoden, Lakpa Bhuti and Mingmar Lama.

Lama said that he would provide immediate short-term relief to four flood-affected families. “Nothing in the house has been saved, so we will immediately provide relief of Rs 20,TAG_OPEN_div_14 000 for food and clothes today,” he said, adding, “We will provide relief of one lakh rupees from the rural municipality in a few days.” He said that he will also take initiative for relief coming from other places.
