KATHMANDU: Phurpu Yamo Tamang, 29, of Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality-3 in Rasuwa district and her newborn baby have been airlifted.

Both the mother and the newborn were admitted to the Paropakar Maternity and Gynecology Hospital for further treatment after they developed serious health problems following the delivery at Gatlang Health Post.

Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality was completely cut off from the transport network due to flooding in the Bhotekoshi River on August 26.

The work procedure approved by the government in August last year has made provision for airlifting pregnant and lactating women and newborns within 24 hours from remote geographical areas and taking them to well-equipped hospitals if special situation arises due to disruption of road network due to floods and landslides.

According to the Ministry, the mother and the newborn have been airlifted to Kathmandu for further treatment after immediate rescue to save their lives.

The Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities and Social Security has expressed gratitude to the local people’s representatives, employees of the health section and the concerned health workers for coordinating and facilitating the rescue works.
