King Charles III has said that Prince Harry and his wife Meghan will remain in touch with the royal family even if they return to the UK.

However, as they stepped down from royal duties in 2020, they will no longer use royal titles and will carry out charitable work in a private capacity.

The letter, sent on behalf of the king to senior government officials, states that the decision regarding the security arrangements of the couple will be made by the concerned police agency. The Lord Chamberlain, a senior official of the royal household, sent a letter to the government, the army and the Lord Lieutenants, who are the king’s representatives throughout the country.

The letter states that the information was shared on the instructions of the king to avoid any doubt or confusion. Some observers of the palace have been skeptical that even if Harry and Meghan’s status remains the same, they could create a parallel royal structure with working members of the royal family.

Harry has been fighting a long legal battle with the government to restore police protection from the public funds that were removed after he left the royal duties. The decision will be taken by the RAVEC (Royal and VIP) Executive Committee on whether or not to provide round-the-clock police protection to the couple.

The Lord Chamberlain urged people to contact Buckingham Palace if they had any questions about the use of public funds for ceremonial honours or special treatment from state agencies.
