Chitwan. The demolition of the dangerous mound of the hill on the Tuin River along the Narayangadh-Muglin road section has started today. The vehicles were partially stopped and started to be lowered from Monday.

According to Arjun Ghimire, an engineer at the Division Road Office, Chitwan, the debris that was about to fall has started during the road blockade since this morning. The mound was removed with the help of the gallon throughout the day on Monday. The mound will be removed with the help of back hammer from today. Six of these equipment are being deployed. Ghimire said that the contractors have been asked to make preparations to add back hambers as per the requirement.

Technicians and workers are working by hanging on the cliff with the help of belts. The Division Road Office has worked to control the landslide in this area, which is considered to be very risky in terms of landslides. The work has been started by stopping the partial vehicular movement at Krishna Bhir of the Prithvi Highway due to the landslide.

The local administration has partially closed the Narayangadh-Muglin road section from Monday morning. The Narayangadh-Muglin road section will be closed from 8:00 am to 8:30 am, 10:30 am to 11:00 am, 1:30 pm to 1:30 pm, 3:30 pm to 4 pm and 6 pm to 6 am the next day. Apart from this, the traffic will be stopped at the place during the additional time.

Last year, a big landslide occurred at the same place on September 3 and 7 last year, blocking the road for 104 hours. According to Ghimire, the landslide is being prevented on the wall towards Narayangadh of the river. The mound is 105 meters high and 165 meters long.

The place is at high risk after a landslide fell on the wall that was cut during the road expansion a few years ago. Initially, the stones, mud and other debris that were falling on the wall are being removed. Along with this, the mound will be cleared. After this, the rod is drilled on the wall and the landslide is being stopped by putting a net from outside. This is called ‘nailing’.

The office had invited bids for Rs 22.21 crore to complete the work in 10 months. Within this budget, the work of landslide prevention work will also be done on the hill of Namsi River towards Muglin. There is a risk of landslides at 43 places in the middle to high road section. Out of these, eight places are considered as high risk.
