Kathmandu. The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to pay Rs 13.81 lakh as compensation to Rashmi Jaisi of Surkhet who was seriously injured after touching the wires of the electricity transmission line.

A meeting of the NEA’s Board of Directors on Wednesday decided to provide Rs 1,381,372 as compensation and relief to eight-year-old Rashmi Jaisi who was critically injured after coming in contact with the wires of the 11 KV transmission line at Panchapuri Municipality-2, Shreechaur, Kotdhara.

Due to the height of the under-construction concrete bridge on the Mahendra Highway in Kotdhara, Rashmi, the 8-year-old daughter of Tikaram Jaisi, who lives near the wire of the 11 KV transmission line, was seriously injured while returning home after bathing. She was completely mutilated in the accident and was treated at various hospitals. She had spent Rs 81,372 for treatment.

The Authority had provided an advance of Rs 3 lakh for the treatment. The Board of Directors has decided to pay the remaining Rs 10,81,372 as per the bylaws of the Nepal Electricity Authority.

According to Anshu Kiran Shahi, member of the board of directors of the NRA, the remaining Rs 1 million 81 thousand 372 will be paid to Rashmi Jaisi as compensation and relief after deducting Rs 300,000 advance taken for her treatment.

The committee formed as per the Accident Compensation Regulations-2067, the recommendation of Panchapuri Municipality and the decision of the NEA’s Medical Board (2083-04-21) confirmed that the injured were completely mutilated.

Compensation of Rs. 19.5 lakhs to injured employees

Similarly, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has decided to provide a compensation of Rs 19.5 million to the employees who were electrocuted during the repair of the transmission line. A meeting of the board of directors of the NEA held on Wednesday evening decided to provide Rs 19,78,301 as medical compensation and other compensation to the employees injured while working in the area.

According to NEA board member Anshu Kiran Shahi, Sher Bahadur Magar aka Sandesh Magar, 25, of Khotang, who works in Ambote of Melamchi Municipality-10, which is under the jurisdiction of the Melamchi Distribution Center, was electrocuted while replacing the disc and pin of the 15 KV transmission line on March 24, 2008. He was taken to Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital for treatment. He had spent Rs 9,78,301 on the treatment.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Electricity Compensation Bylaws, it has been decided to provide a total of Rs 19,78,301, including Rs 1 million as compensation and Rs 9,78,301 for treatment. Magar has already taken Rs 10 lakh in advance. Now, the remaining Rs 9,78,301 will be approved to be distributed to the injured through the concerned distribution center as per the bylaws, said member Shahi.
