Kathmandu. The Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple located in the northeastern part of the Kathmandu Valley has been crowded with devotees since this morning.

Today is Kushe Aunsi, which is the day of seeing the father’s face, so there is a crowd of devotees here. It is called Kushe Aunsi as there is a tradition of paying homage to the departed father and bringing Kush which is necessary for religious activities throughout the year on this day. Kush is considered to be a form of Lord Vishnu.

On the occasion of Kushe Aunsi, a large number of devotees have started paying homage to the departed father at Gokarneshwar Uttargaya Pitrutirtha Dham since this morning. According to religious beliefs, on the day of Bhadrapada Krishna Aunsi, by performing shraddha and tarpan at Gokarneshwar, 21 generations of ancestors are liberated.

According to Jagadish Bhatta, the priest of Gokarneshwor Temple, there is a religious belief established by Brahma in the Satya Yuga and it is mentioned in the scriptures that the ancestors will be liberated by performing shraddha and tarpan at this pilgrimage site.

According to Buddhist religious leader Aitman Lama, there is a tradition of Buddhists going to Gokarneshwar within a year of the death of their father, performing shraddha and puja and then eating a feast. On this day, it is believed that if you visit Gokarneshwar Mahadev, you have a symbolic darshan of the deceased father.

It is also called Gokarne Aunsi because of the fair held in Gokarneshwar on Bhadra Krishna Aunsi. According to religious beliefs, there is a Shree Yantra in Pashupatinath and a Bal Yantra in Gokarneshwar, so those who visit Pashupatinath should also visit Gokarneshwar Mahadev.
