Kathmandu. The Vedic Sanatan Dharma is celebrating the festival of Kusheaushi today by bringing the sacred Kush, which is used in the work of gods and ancestors, into their homes throughout the year.

This festival is celebrated every year on the day of Bhadra Krishna Aunsi. There is a religious belief that keeping the Kush uprooted by the Brahmins and uprooted to the patron according to the scriptural method will bring welfare to the family. Prof. Dr. Devmani Bhattarai told RSS that there is a classical belief that the Kush uprooted on this day can be used throughout the year and on other days the Kush can be used only on the same day.

Sanatan Dharma devotees consider Kush, Tulsi, Peepal and Shaligram as symbols of Lord Vishnu. There is a religious belief that the creator Brahma created the holy Kush along with the sensible being. On this day, Kush kept in every house is used in the work of gods and ancestors throughout the year.

Father’s Honor Day

On this occasion, children pay their respects to their fathers by feeding them sweets and food according to the tradition and look at their father’s face. Those who do not have fathers go to various holy places and perform tarpan, pind daan, and shraddha in the name of their father.

On this day, a special fair is held in the premises of the Gokarneshwor Mahadev Temple in the northeast part of Kathmandu, especially known as Uttargaya. That is why today’s new moon is known as Gokarna Aunsi. On this occasion, a crowd of people perform tarpan, pind daan and sidadaan in the name of the deceased father in the Gokarneshwor Mahadev temple premises.

Jayaram Mahat, chairman of Gokarneshwor Municipality Ward No. 4, who is also the chairman of the temple area management committee, said that all preparations have been made for the fair. Similarly, a fair is also held at Vetravati, the confluence of Rasuwa and Nuwakot. People who have lost their fathers come to Betrawati for tarpan, sidadan and pind daan. This year, due to the floods in Bhotekoshi, it has not been decided whether the fair will be held in Betrawati or not.

According to the religious belief of ‘Pitrudevo Bhava’, on this day, children get happiness by feeding their living father food according to their choice with reverence. It is mentioned in the religious text ‘Buddhakotta Parajikaya’ that if the father has passed away, if he goes to Gokarna or other pilgrimage places and performs tarpan and sidadaan, then he will get virtue and his family will be stable. On this day, even if you donate a little, you get thousands of times more fruit, so it is considered as a virtuous festival.
