Kathmandu. Children who lost their parents in the Jenji movement and those affected by the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods celebrated this year’s National Children’s Day in one place. The children of both the groups shared friendship by participating in meetings, sports and recreational activities organized by Golyan Foundation, a social organization of Golyan Group.

Children’s Day was celebrated by bringing together the children who lost their parents during the Jenji movement a year ago and the children who lost their homes and relatives in the floods on August 10. In the program, the children participated in face painting, various games and recreational activities and shared their happiness.

Jyoti Gaire, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Golyan Foundation, said that the program is organized with the aim of making the mental state of the children positive and connecting them with new friends.TAG_OPEN_p_14

According to him, the Foundation has been providing educational support to the children of Jenji martyrs for the past one year and has been running food, educational materials and child psychosocial counseling program for the flood-affected children at the holding center of Chandra Jyoti Secondary School in Bidur Municipality-5.TAG_OPEN_p_13

On the occasion of Children’s Day, the children of 15 Jenji martyrs studying in Kathmandu and their parents were brought to Bidur. They were introduced to about 60 flood-affected children who were taking shelter at Chandra Jyoti Secondary School. According to the foundation, about 120 people, including children and parents, participated in the program.

Binod Chitrakar, a ward member of Bidur Municipality-5, said that celebrating Children’s Day by bringing children going through different psychosocial conditions together is a positive initiative. He said that the program has given the message that it is the common responsibility of the society to ensure the happiness of children.TAG_OPEN_p_11

Parbati Adhikari, a member of the martyr’s family, said that the program has added a smile to the faces of the children. According to him, the children of the Jenji martyrs have got new friends and the parents have also got the opportunity to understand the pain of the flood-affected families closely.TAG_OPEN_p_10

CEO Gaire said that the priority of the foundation is to protect the right of children to laugh, play and dream. She said that such programs are necessary to preserve the childlike happiness of children even in the midst of adversity and pain.

TAG_OPEN_p_8 The Golyan Foundation is currently providing educational scholarships to 31 children of Jenji Shahid to study up to class 12. According to the foundation, they are provided educational assistance of up to Rs 4.80 lakh annually at the rate of Rs 40,000 per month.
