Kathmandu. The Galchi-Syafrubesi road section, which was damaged by the floods in Bhotekoshi of Rasuwa district, is being restored to traffic by mid-October.

According to the Department of Roads, vehicular movement has resumed in most of the places after repairing the roads.

Director General of the Department of Roads, Dr Bijaya Jaisi, said works are underway to open the Galchhi-Syafrubesi road until Dashain.

According to him, temporary maintenance of Kolpu rivulet connecting Dhading and Nuwakot has been completed and transportation has resumed. Currently, the contractor has started the work after completing the tender process for permanent maintenance at the site.

Around 200 meters of road at Ratomate of the same road has been eroded by the flood and traffic has been restored by ‘backcutting’. Similarly, the Nepal Army has installed a bailey bridge at Devighat of Nuwakot and transportation has been resumed from Galchhi to Bidur.

According to the department, out of about 10 kilometers from Bidur to Betrawati, nine kilometers of the road section has been opened while the road has been blocked due to landslides in about 300 meters. The Nepal Army has started the work of opening the track from both sides by blasting in the area.

Traffic is expected to resume at that place in a few days. After that, a bailey bridge will be installed at Betrawati and Syafrubesi. After the installation of a bailey bridge at these two places, traffic will be operated from Galchhi to Syafrubesi.

“A bailey bridge will be installed at the same place as the old bridge at Betrabeti of Rasuwa. For this, an old foundation has been found, a bailey bridge will be installed after the repair of the foundation is completed,” said Director General Jaisi, adding, “For this, the road will have to be constructed on the Bidur-Betrawati road first.” A 72-meter-long bailey bridge will be installed at the place where the Nepal Army has a 72-meter-long bailey bridge.

After Betrawati, there is no problem on the road from Dhunche to Syaphrubesi. A bailey bridge will have to be installed in Syaphrubesi. Design work has been started to install a 76-meter bailey bridge at the site. “Although a 90-meter bridge is required in Syaphrubesi, preparations are being made to use a 76-meter bailey bridge as per the available structure,” the department said.

About 15 kilometers of the road from Syaphrubesi to Rasuwagadhi has been completely affected due to floods. A survey has already started at the site.

The construction of a new track at Krishnabhir along the Muglin-Galchhi road section has been completed.
