Gorkha. Two people from Gorkha have gone missing in a snowfall at Narpabhumi in Manang.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Raju Kumar Shrestha, informed that two people from Dharche rural municipality-2, Kerauja of the district have gone missing after avalanche occurred while constructing a camp at Himlung Base Camp.

Chairperson of Dharche Rural Municipality, Laxman Gurung, said that Birendra Gurung and Ash Bahadur Gurung of Dharche-2, who had reached the Himlung base camp as helpers of the mountaineers, have been out of contact since Saturday. The families and relatives of the two people who went missing in the avalanche at Himlung Base Camp on Sunday morning have urged the government to expedite the search for them.

About 32-year-old Birendra had gone there as a basecap assistant of Himalayan Holidays Company and 45-year-old Ash Bahadur had gone there to work as a guide and cookman from Imagine Nepal Expedition Pvt. Ltd. “Ash Bahadur and Birendra’s house is now Ruwa,” said Arjun Gurung, a member of the victim’s family. Ash Bahadur’s wife and children are in Kathmandu. He has an elderly mother at home. ”

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shrestha said that 16 people have gone missing in the avalanche at Himlung Base Camp. According to him, the bodies of two of the missing have been found and identified. However, they are yet to be traced.

A 14-member rescue team from the Nepal National Guides Association and the Mountaineering Operators Association has been deployed to search for those missing at the base camp at an altitude of 4,875 meters above sea level. A team of 14 people who escaped from the incident and saved their lives from Phu went to the base camp from Phu, said Tulsing Gurung, president of the Mountaineering Guides Association. “The weather has become easy now and the search has become easier,” he said, adding, “It may take a long time to carry out search operations as the snow is very thick.” ”
