Gulmi. The Resunga Airport road section has been completely obstructed after a road collapsed at Simichaur of Resunga Municipality-10 in Gulmi. The road leading to Ridi via Tamghas-Simichaur-Rangbas-Khajryang along with Resunga Airport has also been affected due to the subsidence of the road.

Traffic has not been able to operate on the road section after about 80 meters of concrete road collapsed in Simichaur. Even motorcycles are taking risk and are barely able to move. Preliminary estimates have caused a loss of more than one crore rupees due to the road collapse.

Two houses in the area are also at high risk due to the landslide. Til Bahadur Kunwar, a local, said that he barely saved his life from the landslide and there is a fear that the house might be swept away by the rain.

The road constructed under the ‘Integrated Road Upgradation Program’ by the Intensive Urban Development Office, Palpa, was completed in mid-July last year. The road collapsed due to incessant rainfall less than a year after the construction was completed.

Ghanashyam Yadav, an engineer at the Intensive Urban Development Office, said that preparations are underway to open the temporary route within a day or two to facilitate the immediate operation of traffic on the road. He said that it will take some time to completely reconstruct the submerged concrete road.

The collapse of the road has directly affected the students coming from the area to study in the district headquarters Tamghas, passengers going to Resunga Airport and the general public.
