Kathmandu. Iran has criticized US President Donald Trump, accusing him of violating diplomatic commitments. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said that Trump’s comments on the 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) exposed the hollowness of America’s diplomatic commitments.
Reacting on social media X, Bagh accused the US of rejecting its commitments and interpreting its international obligations to its advantage. He said there was no point in European countries and other supporters trying to shield US behaviour from accountability and that international law should not be selectively enforced.
Earlier on Wednesday, at an election rally in Lubbock, Texas, Trump said that the US did not start a war with Iran, but instead accused Iran of waging a war against the US since 1979. He said that previous US leaders should have solved the problem first and that they could end the war if they wanted. At a rally in Mississippi on October 26, he said that the ceasefire was a waste of time.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel has a historic opportunity to remove the threat posed by the Iranian regime in partnership with President Trump. He made the statement at the election headquarters of the Likud Party in Jerusalem while waiting for the election results.
On the other hand, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Moztaba Khamenei has described the control of the Strait of Hormuz as important for national and regional security. In a public address after meeting with the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, Maj. Gen. Mohsen Rezaei, he discussed national security, regional cooperation and strategic interests.
Khamenei stressed the need to strengthen relations with neighboring countries on the basis of mutual benefit and end the uncertain situation between war and peace. He also stressed the need for effective communication to maintain public participation in the country’s defense.
The remarks came after Rezaei warned of consequences if any military action against Iran could be taken. Tehran has said it has prioritized diplomacy in order to prevent further confrontation.
