Mustang. KATHMANDU: Import and export transactions from Nepal-China North Korala border point have been declining. According to the Mustang Customs Office, the import and export transaction from Korala border point has decreased with the recent operation of Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi border points.
With the opening of Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border points in recent period, the number of containers entering Nepal at the Chinese customs point at Korala border point has decreased.
Information Officer at the Customs Office, Nimendra Singh, said that only eight to ten containers entering Nepal from Korala border point are currently pending at the Customs Office for the customs clearance. Information Officer Singh said that no more containers have entered the customs office from Korala border point except the containers pending for customs clearance.
According to Information Officer Singh, 15-20 containers used to pass customs clearance on a daily basis due to the non-opening of Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi checkpoints. More than Rs 5.5 billion has been collected from the customs clearance of goods imported from Korala border point, which came into full operation from September 11. According to him, goods worth Rs 11 billion have been imported through the Korala border point so far and more than Rs 190 million has been exported from Nepal to China.
Information Officer Singh said that more than 2,100 electric cars have entered Nepal from China through Korala border point so far. Lately, BYD has brought more than 500 electric cars to Nepal from Korala checkpoint. Employees at the customs office have been relieved after the import and export transactions decreased after the Korala border point was used as an alternative border point and the opening of Tatopani border point and Rasuwagadhi border point. The volume of import and export has decreased as the economic burden of transporting goods through this border point increases.
Mayor Singh claimed that even though Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi border points have been opened, the transaction from the Customs Office would not be zero except in adverse weather. He said, “Import and export may not be like the closure of Rasuwagadhi and Tatopani border points, but it is easier for some traders to import and export from Korala border point.” Therefore, the customs here is not as closed as in the past years. ”
At this time, the movement at Korlana and customs office has decreased. Despite the adverse weather, some employees are staying at the customs office. Traders living at an altitude of 4,610 meters above sea level and local youths who use containers and electric vehicles to evacuate goods from the Chinese customs have also descended to the valley to escape the cold.
