Kathmandu. Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) President Dr Badri KC has drawn the attention of Director General of Department of Passport Tirtha Raj Aryal to resolve the problem related to passport of Nepali citizens in Spain.
Although the Spanish government has announced to grant legal status to undocumented immigrants, Nepali citizens have been facing delays and technical difficulties in renewing their passports and obtaining new passports. Dr KC has drawn attention to the issue.
He pointed out the need for the Department of Passports to immediately send a mobile passport camp to utilize the opportunity given by the Spanish government for documentation of the migrant workers.
“A large number of Nepalis in Spain do not have passport and their expiry date has expired”, he said, adding, “We have been receiving complaints that the human resources available at the Nepali Embassy in Spain have not been able to address this problem. ”
Although there is no exact data of undocumented Nepalis in Spain, it is possible to maintain the legal status of undocumented Nepali citizens in Spain if they participate in this occasion. KC said.
On the occasion, Director General Aryal said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already decided to send a special team to Spain at the earliest and the decision was in the process of implementation. Prior to this, the Foreign Minister, Foreign Secretary and Europe Division Chief had met separately to apprise them of the problems related to Spain and correspondence was also made.
Krishna Kumar Subedi, under-secretary of Labour Immigration and Nepali Diaspora Division, Rajendra Kumar Raut, NRNA’s chief executive officer Rajendra Kumar Raut and senior officer Kunal Mishra were present in the meeting.
