Kathmandu. Amid the escalating war in the Middle East, China has reiterated its clear disagreement with the military attack on Iran. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar by phone on Tuesday that Beijing opposes the military action against Iran.
The war in the Middle East began after the United States and Israel attacked Iran over the weekend. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in the attack, and the conflict has spread across the country since then. China, a close ally of Tehran, has already called for a ceasefire and condemned Khamenei’s killing as a “grave violation”.
According to the state-run Xinhua news agency, Wang stressed the need to resolve differences through dialogue and consultation with his Israeli counterpart. He said the military strikes had disrupted the process at a time when recent talks between Iran and the US were moving in a positive direction. “The recent Iran-US talks were making significant progress, but unfortunately the exchange of fire has halted,” he said.
Wang reiterated China’s opposition to the US-Israeli military action and said that the use of force will not solve the problem. “Force does not solve problems, but it will lead to new problems and serious consequences,” he said.
“China insists on immediate suspension of military actions to prevent the conflict from escalating further and spiralling out of control,” he said. China has called on the international community to play an active role in reviving efforts to find a solution through dialogue.
