Tax imposed on electricity tariff for construction of electric infrastructure: Finance Minister Dr Wagle

. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle said that electricity tariff is being levied for the construction of electricity infrastructure.

He said this at a press conference held at the Ministry of Finance after the announcement of the budget.TAG_OPEN_div_18

Stating that a budget of Rs TAG_OPEN_div_16 85.54 billion has been allocated for the development of electricity infrastructure in the coming fiscal year, he said that 5 percent tax has been proposed for those consuming more than 50 units of electricity to raise source of investment.

He also claimed that the equity fund to be collected for those studying in private schools and treatment in private hospitals would be used for the development of public infrastructure and for the nutrition of students in remote areas.TAG_OPEN_div_14

He said that there is a compulsion to allocate a large amount of resources for regular liability. Saying the budget has laid emphasis on completing the under-construction infrastructures, Finance Minister Wagle assured to complete 12 transmission lines and the Postal Highway within the next fiscal year. According to him, the budget has made special provisions for the development of AI and electronic infrastructure, and this project is of strategic importance.

He said that the consumption-based tax system has been prioritized to meet the revenue collection target.TAG_OPEN_div_10 Stating that the middle class would not be burdened with exorbitant taxation, Finance Minister Wagle said that a provision has been made for one percent tax on annual income up to Rs 1 million.
