Budget prioritizes economic diplomacy, soft power: Foreign Minister Khanal

Kathmandu. On the occasion, Minister for Foreign Affairs Sishir Khanal said economic diplomacy and soft power promotion have been prioritized this year. Responding to the queries raised in the House of Representatives on the topic of the Foreign Ministry under the Appropriation Bill-2083 BS today, he said economic diplomacy and promotion of soft power have been prioritized.
Foreign Minister Khanal said, “We have prioritized the issues of making economic diplomacy especially effective, enhancing the country’s international image and prestige through the effective mobilization of public diplomacy by highlighting Nepal’s soft power and strengthening the consular service.”TAG_OPEN_div_46 ”
Minister Khanal said the government was committed to Nepal’s constitution, foreign policy and international values and was working with priority towards achieving good governance and economic prosperity.TAG_OPEN_div_44 “The Constitution has enshrined the UN Charter, non-alignment, the Panchasheel Principles, international law and world peace as the fundamental principles of Nepal’s foreign policy,” he said, adding that the independent and balanced foreign policy has been conducted on the basis of these principles keeping in mind the supreme interest of the nation. ”
Minister Khanal said that there are 44 Nepali embassies, 31 embassies, three permanent embassies and 10 consulates in various countries and cities.TAG_OPEN_div_42 So far, Nepal has established diplomatic relations with 183 countries.
A total budget of Rs TAG_OPEN_div_40 8.73 billion has been approved for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its agencies for the coming fiscal year 2083/84. Informing about the budget appropriated for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the coming fiscal year, he said Rs 1.55 billion has been allocated for capital expenditure and Rs 7.18 billion for recurrent expenditure.
Stating that economic diplomacy and soft power promotion have been prioritized, Minister Khanal said, “We will strengthen the bilateral relations by prioritizing the visit, talks and regular meeting of the established mechanism.”TAG_OPEN_div_38 We will promote regional and international cooperation. ”

“Rescue of workers in trouble, legal aid, compensation and repatriation programme, ‘Lumbini Fellowship’ programme, ‘International Dialogue Series’ programme, second edition of Sagarmatha Sambad, International Health Day, Nepal promotion through the mission÷ Sagarmatha Day, tourism promotion and cultural promotion including Buddha Jayanti are among the priority programmes,” Minister Khanal said.TAG_OPEN_div_34 said.
Stating that the works to be performed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be sensitive, he said that the Ministry has been carrying out works by giving priority to the security, rights and interests of the Nepalis living abroad as well as making the foreign employment more systematic, safe and dignified, providing assistance to the Nepalis in trouble, rescue them and repatriating the dead bodies in case of death.TAG_OPEN_div_32
} “In case of those who have gone abroad with a work permit or who have gone abroad till September 30, 2024 and have obtained legalized labour permit from the Nepali mission abroad, the concerned employer company will take necessary action if the body needs to be rescued or assisted for any reason or if the dead body has to be brought back to Nepal,” said Khanal, adding that the Foreign Employment Board can release budget if it is not possible to bring the dead body back to Nepal due to any reason । ”
Minister Khanal said that the Nepali missions have been directed to make necessary coordination regarding the rescue and assistance of Ujjwal Kunwar of Dhading who was said to have been held captive in Cyprus and the body of Deepak Dhami of Bajhang who died in Japan.TAG_OPEN_div_28 Sharmila Darji, who had gone to Kuwait as a domestic helper, was brought back to Kathmandu on June 1 at the initiative of the Nepali Embassy, Kuwait.

According to him, after the formation of TAG_OPEN_div_24 the incumbent government, he has been working by giving priority to foreign policy and international relations centered on national interest and promoting the country’s image. Stating that the issue of conducting foreign relations was sensitive, Minister Khanal said all would have equal responsibility, contribution and role on the issue. Minister Khanal expressed the commitment that the Ministry would give continuity to the works in the days to come and inform the parliament about the achievements made so far.
