The Genji Martyrs Family Welfare Society has honored Akshay Golyan, Chairman and Managing Director of Golyan Group.TAG_OPEN_p_22

} On the occasion of the completion of one year of the Genji movement, the society honored Golyan with a certificate of honor and a scarf. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung and other personalities from different walks of life were present on the occasion.

The Golyan Group, led by Akshay Golyan, has been providing long-term support to the members of the martyr families of the Jenji movement in the education and health sectors through the Golyan Foundation. A month after the movement, on October 12, 2002, the foundation announced a program to provide educational scholarships up to grade 12 to the children of martyrs and lifelong health insurance to their parents.

According to the foundation, 31 children of 22 martyrs are receiving educational scholarships and 43 parents of 22 martyrs have received health insurance facilities of up to Rs 10 lakh annually. The foundation has been allocating about Rs 2.5 crore annually for this program.TAG_OPEN_p_19

Speaking after receiving the award, President Golyan said that the commitment made to the martyr’s family is not a short-term program but a long-term responsibility.TAG_OPEN_p_18

“This is not a commitment that will be forgotten today and forgotten tomorrow. We will continue to be together to honour the martyrs and ensure a secure future for their children and parents,” he said.

He said that he had the opportunity to know the condition of the martyr families and their children closely after the Jenji movement and said that it made him more responsible. He said that all Nepalis should play their role to fulfill the dream of a safe, prosperous, peaceful and just Nepal as envisioned by the martyrs.

“We have not forgotten the sacrifices of the martyrs. It is the responsibility of every Nepali to build the country. The martyrs have fulfilled their duty, now it is our turn,” Golyan said.

Golyan Foundation has been providing up to Rs 40,TAG_OPEN_p_14 000 per student monthly under the scholarship scheme. Under this, a maximum of Rs 4,80,000 is provided annually. The scholarship covers all educational expenses including school fees, hostel, transportation, books and stationery, uniforms, extracurricular activities, according to the foundation.

Currently TAG_OPEN_p_13, the scholarship recipients are studying in various schools in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Jhapa, Chitwan, Pokhara, Butwal, Sunsari and Lahan. Among the recipients of the scholarship, Aakriti Rai of Chitwan has passed the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) of 2082 while three children have started school education in the same year.

According to Jyoti Gaire, Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation, the family members of the martyrs who were not included in the scholarship have been helped through health insurance. Under the health insurance, claims worth about Rs 8 lakh have been paid in the first year itself. According to the foundation, about Rs 4 lakh has been paid for the treatment of Kriti Ballav Pant.TAG_OPEN_p_12

“The community recognizes this exemplary contribution to the education and health security of the martyrs of the Genji movement and honors Golyan,” the statement said.
