Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has said that the government has not interfered in the autonomy of the Nepal Rastra Bank and the Governor.
Responding to the queries raised by lawmakers on the bill designed to amend Nepal Rastra Bank Act-2058 BS in the Finance Committee on Friday, Finance Minister Wagle clarified that the government would not unnecessarily interfere in the NRB while making monetary policy, circulars and other decisions.
Urging all not to have the illusion that the government would put pressure on the NRB through the Finance Secretary, he said the post of Governor was powerful in itself.
According to him, the role of the Finance Secretary would be only as a ‘bridge’ to coordinate between the fiscal and monetary policies.
Finance Minister Wagle however said that the issue of bringing monetary policy as per the spirit of the government’s budget is well-established practice and this provision would be incorporated in the budget.
