Kathmandu. Tribhuvan University has provided Rs 9.25 crore for the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River.

Vice-chancellor of the University Prof Dr Bhola Thapa handed over a cheque of the amount to Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel at the Ministry on Wednesday.

According to the university, the amount deducted from the salary and allowances of the office bearers and employees has been deposited in the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Rescue and Relief Fund.

The vice-chancellor, rector and registrar have contributed one month’s salary while the professors and administrative staff have contributed 10 days’ salary of the monthly salary scale.

Likewise, seven days’ salary has been deducted from assistant professors and deputy administrators, section officers and instructors or equivalent teachers, five days’ salary from the main office assistant and office assistants or equivalent employees and two days’ salary from non-graded employees.

According to Thapa, the amount has been provided to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation works after the loss of lives and property due to the massive floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan, among other places.

A recent meeting of the Executive Council of the University had decided to deduct certain amount from the remuneration of office-bearers, teachers and employees of various levels and deposit it in the relief fund.
