KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Shishir Khanal has arrived in Fiji to participate in the Pre-Cope Leaders’ Event on Climate Change.
The Nepali delegation led by Minister Khanal arrived in Fiji today in connection with the programme to be held in Fiji and Tuvalu on October 1 and 20.
Minister Khanal is scheduled to address the Leaders’ Plenary to be held from May 20.
Prior to the session, he participated in a question-answer session with media to be held in the presence of the President of Palau and the Prime Ministers of Australia and Fiji.
It is expected that Nepal’s participation in the pre-COP Leaders’ event to be organized with the objective of advancing global dialogue and collaboration on climate change will be an opportunity to raise the issues of climate change, climate justice and concerns of the Himalayan countries in the international arena.
According to the Foreign Minister’s Secretariat, Khanal will leave for Australia after attending the programme to be held in Fiji and Tuvalu.
He is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on October 22. During the meeting, Nepal-Australia relations, bilateral cooperation and various issues of mutual interest will be discussed.
During his stay in Australia, Minister Khanal participated in separate programmes organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Canberra and Nepali Diaspora in Sydney.
Through these programs, he interacted with the Nepali community in Australia. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Khanal will return to Nepal on October 26.
