KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) Spokesperson Devraj Chalise has made public the decisions taken by the central committee meeting held before the commencement of the closed session of the 15th general convention.

According to Chalise, this is the last meeting of the central committee formed by the special general convention.

The meeting also decided on the political proposal presented by party president Gagan Kumar Thapa, contemporary issues presented by the Vice-President and the proposal related to the party’s operation and statute presented by the general secretary.

According to him, the political proposal presented by Thapa incorporates NC’s political line for the next four years, government, overall situation of the country as well as international relations and perspective.

Stating that strengthening democratic institutions was the major challenge of the days ahead, he said nationality, democracy and socialism were the main principles of the NC.

The Congress has put forward a policy to give priority to leadership development and capacity building for the selection of candidates in the upcoming elections. Chalise said that the concept of making candidates of candidates who have completed training and studies from the leadership academy has been put forward. The Congress hopes that this will help in building competent leadership and promoting good governance.

The meeting has also forwarded a preliminary blueprint with suggestions on the proposal related to statute amendment. Chalise said that the proposal presented by the general secretary has included how to run the party, how to move forward the decision-making process and how to manage the responsibilities and structures at various levels of the party.

In the preliminary draft of the new statute, it has also been proposed to create additional posts at the ward, region and district levels. However, this is not the final decision, said Chalise. According to him, the structure made public now is only a preliminary blueprint. It will be finalized only after the proposal is presented in the closed session of the 15th Congress and passed by the representatives.
