Kathmandu. Flights to Riyadh International Airport resumed on Sunday after being closed for two weeks after Yemen’s Houthi rebels attacked the Saudi capital. However, the Iran-backed group has warned of more attacks in the coming days.

Flight Radar showed a plane flying from Riyadh airport on Sunday morning and headed for the Saudi city of Jeddah.

Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s internationally recognized government, which it backs, have faced a relentless onslaught from the Houthi rebels in recent weeks after a long-standing ceasefire was broken this summer.

The conflict has shifted the focus of a wider confrontation between the United States and Iran to Yemen and deepened the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, one of the world’s poorest countries.

Effective Sunday, October 25, Terminal 1 will be designated for domestic flights and Terminal 2 for international flights operated by national carriers, King Khalid International Airport said in a post on X on Saturday.

The Houthi rebels have repeatedly targeted Riyadh airport. In one attack this month, 13 people were killed and more than 300 injured; it was the deadliest attack in Saudi Arabia in more than a decade.

Yahya Shari, a military spokesman for the Houthi rebels, warned that the airport was still unsafe and a military target.

“The Yemeni armed forces warn all international, regional and local airlines, as well as their employees and passengers, not to use King Khalid Airport in Riyadh, as it is unsafe and remains a military target for our military,” he said. ”

The Saudi-led military coalition fighting the Houthi rebels said it shot down two drones in the Riyadh region on Sunday morning.
