Nepal’s Shrestha elected vice-president of World Press Council

Kathmandu. Kishor Shrestha, former acting president of The Press Council of Nepal, has been elected as the vice-president of the World Press Council.

He was elected vice-president at a council summit in Tanzania. Shrestha also became the outgoing General Secretary of the World Press Council. The council has unanimously elected a new leadership for the next three years. However, the entire process of the election has been completed, shrestha said.

Press Council of India representative Sudhir Kumar Panda proposed Shrestha’s proposal while Zimbabwe’s Lofty Dubey, Myanmar’s Dr Tin Tun O, Kosovo’s Ibrahim Arslan and Tanzania’s Kazubi Mukazanga supported shrestha.

David Omoyo (Kenya) and Ali Hanserli (Cyprus) were elected as council president and another vice president respectively. Similarly, Tanzania’s Ernest Samson Sungura took over as general secretary while Turkey’s Tamer Atabarut became treasurer.

India’s CK Nayak and Tanzania’s Ziada Kilobo have been selected as international contact coordinators.

The council’s world conference, which is being held in Arusa, Tanzania, from Monday, will conclude on Friday. Representatives from 27 countries, including Nepal, are participating in the conference.
