Kathmandu. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Executive Director Hitendra Dev Shakya has directed the concerned officials of Madhya Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project. He has directed to be prepared to check the leakage of the tunnel and ensure that the structures including the power house do not get flooded.
The project, which is the largest project to be built solely with indigenous skills and capital, completed all preparations for production on Wednesday. Executive Director Shakya had directed to ensure that water does not leak in the 7.2 km tunnel under the project.
He also directed to make necessary arrangements so that all the infrastructures, including the powerhouse, are not affected by the floods in Bhotekoshi. He also directed the power houses to build sledding barricades and protect the structures of the project from floods in other areas.
The total generation capacity of madhya Bhotekoshi project is 102 MW. The project is expected to generate 542.2 million units of electricity annually.
Although the construction work of the project was completed a few months ago, the production did not start due to the lack of finalization of the transmission line. Initially, the target was to connect the barhabise-Lapsifedi transmission line to the power system, but after the agreement with the locals could not be reached, efforts were made to bring it from Lamosanghu side. The nea-owned New Khimti 400 KV substation is going to be connected to the national transmission system through dhalkewar transmission line.
The construction of the project, which started in 2070 BS, could not start due to the jure landslide in July 2071, the devastating earthquake of April 2072, the five-and-a-half-month-long Indian blockade since September 2072, the flood in the Bhotekoshi River in June 2073, the flood-landslide in the Bhotekoshi river and surrounding areas, and the confusion of the transmission line for the last time.
