Bhadrapur. In the last fiscal year 2081/82 BS, goods worth Rs 4.72 billion were imported from Bangladesh through the eastern border point of Kakarvitta.
According to Subash Pandey, chief of Nepal Transit and Warehouse Management Company Limited branch office Kakarbhitta, unprocessed jute worth Rs 2.65 billion has been imported from Bangladesh.
Similarly, potato worth Rs 371.6 million, paper worth Rs 212 million, batteries, poultry feed supplements, cosmetic items, hydrogen paraoxide, jute yarn, electrical appliances, medicines, glass, food and beverages were imported, he said.
According to Company Chief Pandey, goods worth Rs 422.4million were exported to Bangladesh from Kakarbhitta in the last fiscal year. Of these, Molasses (Khudo) alone has exported to Bangladesh worth Rs 325.67 million. According to him, other items exported through the eastern border point of Kakarvitta include herbs, Dawar Nepal Products, Animal Feed, Household Articles, among others.
According to Pandey, India has been doing business with Bangladesh through Phulbari in West Bengal and Banglabandha, the northern border of Bangladesh. According to the statistics of the last 27 years since the start of bilateral trade with Bangladesh, imports are more than exports.
