Tanahun. Byas Municipality has earned Rs 1,532,837 in 11 months by selling non-degradable waste. The municipality had started collecting and managing the waste since August last year.
According to the municipality, in the first phase, it has started selling the non-degradable waste by classifying it in a subtle way with the intention of turning it into a seal. According to the Forest, Environment and Sanitation Section of the municipality, the municipality has started selling plastic, cloth, iron and glass products by inviting bids for the sale.
Chief Administrative Officer Kashiram Gaire said that the truck is sent for sale after reaching the tip. He said, “A belling machine has been installed in the premises of Byas municipality and non-biodegradable plastic, iron and paper materials are being converted from a large size to a small size and stored.” ’
According to him, the price of aluminium including Red Bull has been fixed at Rs 60 per kg, iron at Rs 35 per kg, tin 25 per kg, water bottle and other bottles at Rs 23, cloth at Rs 5.50 per kg, copy at Rs 16 per kg and book at Rs 14 per kg.
Earlier, the municipality had been managing non-biodegradable waste at Bhateri on the banks of madi river in ward no. 3. Since the contract period of the area has expired, the waste management is going to be done from the office premises until further arrangements are made.
“At present, 15 tonnes of non-degradable waste and around seven tonnes of waste is being collected daily in the municipality area,” he said. ’
The municipality has been managing the waste at the Cow Protection Centre, Bhateri, Byas-10. The land purchase process in Ward No. 13 has been halted for the time being as the locals have protested against the process of purchasing land in ward no. 13 for sustainable management of non-degradable waste.
Byas Municipality Mayor Baikuntha Neupane said that the municipality has been spending lakhs of rupees in the sanitation sector.
