Kathmandu. Kathmandu: A conference of lawmakers from the Hindu Kush Himalayan region organized by the Agriculture, Cooperatives and Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives for the first time in Nepal concluded with a five-point call.
The two-day conference, which began on Monday with the theme ‘Conservation of Nature, Empowerment of People’, concluded today. Lawmakers and representatives of the countries of the region have called for immediate implementation in the areas of climate change, air pollution and biodiversity conservation through regional cooperation from the ‘Hindu Kush Himalayan Parliamentarians Conference 2025’ held in Kathmandu.
Coordinator of the organizing committee and committee member Bir Bahadur Balayar briefed about the outcome of the meeting.
The conference concluded that the growing climate crisis, pollution and loss of biodiversity in the Hindu Kush Himalayan region, which has shared ecological, social and economic importance, poses serious challenges to communities and ecosystems.
Climate tolerance, clean air and biodiversity conservation should be given priority for a safer future for future generations. It also called for cooperation for regional unity, inclusive development and sustainability by making the legislative role of lawmakers effective.
The five-point call includes holding of the conference regularly and exploring the possibility of establishing ‘Hindu Kush Himalayan Parliamentarians Forum’ for regional dialogue.
It will also exchange the latest scientific evidence, experiences and best practices related to climate change, biodiversity and air quality, strengthen the monitoring role of lawmakers, and hold the second conference at an appropriate date and place as per mutual agreement.
The Hindu Kush Himalayan region includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Pakistan.
