Birgunj. Although cholera infection has spread at the community level in Birgunj Metropolitan Area, the source of cholera has not yet been identified. Cholera patients have been found in different wards of Birgunj since last Friday.
Jayamod Thakur, public health officer at the Health Office, Parsa, said 79 cholera patients have been found in Birgunj so far. “Till 8:00 pm on Sunday, 71 people were found infected with cholera,” he said. ’
So far, 103 people have been admitted to different hospitals and are undergoing treatment. “The main source of cholera has not been identified yet,” he said, adding that representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) have been conducting various tests since Sunday, including water testing. We hope to identify the source of cholera by today. ’
Spokesperson of Narayani Hospital Birgunj, Dr Uday Narayan Singh, said that 30 patients have been admitted to the hospital till Sunday. “Narayani Hospital is facing a shortage of both beds and human resources for the treatment of cholera,” he said. So far, the manpower and other medical supplies needed in the form of paperwork have not arrived. ’
Spokesperson Singh complained that along with the cholera epidemic, the influx of various other types of patients is also unbearable in nature. “Apart from this pandemic, we are also fighting various other epidemics. There is a problem of snake bite. Although there is an influx of patients including fever and paralysis, it is difficult to manage due to lack of adequate manpower,” he said. But the hospital does not have both internal and external support. ’
Spokesperson Singh said that the preliminary report of the source of cholera is likely to come today itself as the Representatives of the World Health Organization have come to Birgunj and are carrying out necessary works including water testing. A total of 26 patients were found infected with cholera at Narayani Hospital. Similarly, 25 patients have been found in Tarai Hospital, nine in National Medical College and three in Bhawani Hospital.
Similarly, eight cholera-infected patients have been found in Birgunj Health Care, Ali Ortho Hospital and Mangalam Pathology. It is not known at which hospital eight more patients were added on Monday morning.
