Taplejung. As many as 11 houses have been displaced and 12 households are at high risk of landslide due to incessant rainfall.
According to the local disaster management committee’s on-site inspection, wards 2, 4, 5 and 6 have been mostly affected by the disaster. Two houses in Ward No. 2 have been displaced while five houses in Ward No. 4 have been at high risk. Similarly, one house has been displaced and seven houses are at high risk of disaster in Ward No. 5. Similarly, eight houses have been displaced in Ward No. 6 and two others were killed and three others injured when a landslide buried them a few days ago. The injured are undergoing treatment, police said.
Similarly, physical infrastructure has also been damaged. Similarly, a road at ward no 4 has been completely washed away while the road leading to the Yangdeli suspension bridge connecting wards 4 and 5 has been washed away by the landslide. Similarly, the Chimphak-Raniban road, Raniban-Sangluppa road, Raniban-Samtong road, Orkhum-Jaiba road and Fakumba-Yade road sections have been obstructed due to floods and landslides. It has also swept away the gabin and soling constructed in the Yakma forest area along the Tirtire-Kharte road section.
Bijaya Prakash Banem, chairperson of the rural municipality, said that life has been difficult due to the disasters caused by floods and landslides as major festivals like Dashain and Tihar are approaching.
The affected families have been displaced and forced to spend their days in unsafe conditions. There is no possibility of rain stopping yet, so the risk is expected to increase. Meanwhile, rural municipality chair Banem has urged one and all to remain vigilant.
