Imports grew by 16.23 per cent while exports grew by 88.57 per cent

Kathmandu. In the first two months of the current fiscal year, goods import has increased by 16.23 percent. This is according to the data related to foreign trade released by the Department of Customs today.

Nepal had imported goods worth Rs 262.54 billion in the first two months of the last fiscal year. In the first two months of the current fiscal year, goods worth Rs 305.15 billion were imported.

Likewise, Nepal’s merchandise exports increased by 88.57 percent in the review period. In the first quarter of the last FY, goods worth Rs 25.09 billion were exported. Nepal exported goods worth Rs 47.31 billion in the first two months of the current fiscal year. Although the Tatopani border point has been closed due to the floods, the data of foreign trade does not seem to have been affected. The data till mid-September shows that the impact of the Genji movement has not been seen in foreign trade.

In the review period, Nepal’s total trade deficit reached Rs 257.83 billion, which is 22.54 percent more than the same period last year. In the first two months of the last fiscal year, the trade deficit stood at Rs 237.44 billion.
