Kathmandu. Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal held a meeting with the chiefs of the local donor agencies today.
Ambassadors of different countries, heads and representatives of UN agencies in Nepal, representatives of missions and heads of multilateral and bilateral development partners discussed the recent political changes in Nepal and the economic line and priorities adopted by the new government.
On the occasion, Minister Khanal thanked the development partners for their significant contributions to the socio-economic development of Nepal and briefed them about the immediate priorities of the current government.
The interim government formed after the changes in Nepal is committed to establishing transparency, accountability, corruption-free society and rule of law as per the aspirations of the youth, he said.
Stating that the agitation has caused a huge economic loss to the public and private sectors, Finance Minister Khanal said that the reconstruction would be forwarded through inappropriate expenditure cuts and austerity.
On the occasion, UN Resident Coordinator, UNHCR representatives, ambassadors of Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Finland and Australia to Nepal, representatives from India and Norway, representatives of European Union, World Food Programme and others informed that they were aware of Nepal’s current situation.
They agreed to the policies and programmes adopted by the present government. “The development partners are always ready to cooperate with the Government of Nepal for the continuation of ongoing projects and further implementation,” said Tanka Prasad Pandey, joint secretary and spokesperson at the ministry.
