‘Hemjakot’ to see the fish-tail shining like silver in front of the eyes

Gandaki. The panoramic mountain range with Machhapuchhre Mountain shining like silver in front of the eyes, the green forests all around and the roads and houses covered with stones.

This village of natural as well as historical importance is said to have existed since the time of the Vice-Chaubise king of Nepal.TAG_OPEN_div_32 According to Ishwor Gurung, chairman of Community Hemjakot Homestay, the palace of kings was situated in the Kot above the village and the village might have been named Hemjakot after this Kot.

According to Gurung, on the other side of the village, there is another fort named Jayakot in the middle of the forest.TAG_OPEN_div_30 There is also a tradition of sacrificial worship in this court. It is believed that women should not eat the offerings made in Jai Kot and should not be taken home. This area, which is discussed religiously and historically, is naturally fascinating. The homestay has been operated since 2062 BS with the objective of linking the natural beauty and history of this place with tourism.

Sharing his experience of starting the homestay program in the beginning, Gurung said that since then, 16 homestays have been run in the local house.TAG_OPEN_div_28 “Before COVID-19, 16 homestays were operated here but after that only 12 houses have been in operation”, he said, adding, “The homestay was registered with the Tourism Board but now it has been registered in Machhapuchhre rural municipality.” ”

The locals, who have been providing good hospitality to the tourists, have fixed a package of Rs 1,200 for the tourists, including lunch, dinner, lodging and breakfast.TAG_OPEN_div_26

Hemjakot village is three kilometers ahead of Dhital of Machhapuchhre Rural Municipality from Simpani of Pokhara Metropolitan City-1 to Yamdi, Milan Chowk and Melbot of Hemja. This place is located 18 km away from Simpani of Pokhara and is mostly inhabited by the Gurung community. The 12 houses with 50 houses can accommodate up to 80 guests. This community homestay was declared as the best village tourism destination by the Ministry of Tourism in 2072 BS.

From here, one can observe Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, Lamjung and other mountains, as well as the tea garden of the neighboring village Lwang.TAG_OPEN_div_22 Since this village lies in the ‘Machhapuchhre Model Trek’, there is a crowd of domestic and foreign tourists during the tourist season.
