Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) has expressed serious concern over the government’s recent act of displacing squatters in different parts of the country without proper alternatives and demolishing huts.
Terming the move as “inhuman”, the party called on the government to immediately stop the move and make arrangements for rehabilitation.
“The activities carried out in the name of squatter management have left the victims’ families in distress and there is a risk of weakening the trust of marginalized communities in the state,” the statement said. “We urge the government not to carry out such activities without proper rehabilitation,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, the party has also demanded the government to control the rise in price rise and black marketing in the market immediately after the formation of the new government.
The party has termed the attempt to ban student unions as unconstitutional and unacceptable. Serious concern has been expressed over the attempt to snatch away the right to organize in the federal democratic republic that was enjoyed even during the time of the Panchayat system. It also states that any attempt to ban trade unions would violate constitutional rights and international treaties and agreements.
Stating that the people have expected good governance, social justice and prosperity from the incumbent government, the party has welcomed the positive programmes. However, the biased and one-sided tendencies in governance and parliamentary practices have raised concerns.
The party also called on the government to be more democratic, responsible and inclusive and responsible to the squatters, farmers, workers and the oppressed communities. “The consolidation of democracy is not possible by snatching away rights or destroying people’s homes,” the statement reads.
