Kathmandu. Former Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel has given more than half a dozen suggestions for the budget that the government is preparing for the coming fiscal year.

Speaking at a discussion held at the Finance Ministry today, he said that the promise letter could be fully implemented as the Finance Minister has a government with strong people’s mandate and understands everything. He suggested that the budget should be prepared accordingly.

Recalling that he had listened to Finance Minister Dr Wagle’s commitment for reform, he said he was always ready for any help needed.

Reminding that it is our tradition to prepare the budget by estimating the expenditure rather than the estimate of the resources, he suggested to correct such weakness.

He suggested not to prepare the budget now worrying about the local and provincial elections. “The winner of the federal election wins the local elections,” he said. During the suggestion, he recalled that instead of selling mines and stones and pebbles, he had to take a beating. “They tried to sell Chure. The mines identified by the Department of Mines can be excavated and sold. Let’s have the courage,” he said.

Poudel suggested that the game changer project should not just sit idle and start working on it.
