Budget failed to address demands related to quality standards and industry ceiling: Chairman Pandey

. Birendra Raj Pandey, president of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), said that the demands put forth by the private sector to enforce mandatory quality standards on goods imported from India and other countries have not been addressed. Though the budget has addressed several issues of the private sector, some demands have not been addressed, he said, adding that although the government has demanded to enforce the quality standard on goods imported from countries including India, it has not been mentioned in the budget.

Pandey has said that the overall budget has been brought to give a new direction to Nepal’s economy.TAG_OPEN_div_14 Speaking at an interaction organized by the Association of Economic Journalists of Nepal (NAFIJ) after the budget, he said that the government has come to boost the morale of the private sector.

Chairman Pandey said that the budget has been brought in a way to make the economy dynamic at a time when the demand for consumer goods has decreased in recent years.TAG_OPEN_div_12 “It has been done to boost the morale of the private sector and make the economy dynamic,” he said, adding, “The budget programmes seem to address the demand for the market at present.” He said that the excise duty removed by the government on 260 items will reduce the trouble of business. He said that the amendment of Section 57 of the Income Tax Act, which has been demanded by the Confederation of Industries (CNI), is welcome.

} “Resolving tax disputes and amending dozens of laws related to investment will encourage the private sector,” he says. It’s what we’re asking for. He expressed the belief that the government’s policy of promoting forest, mines and nature-based industries through the budget would help increase productive industries.

} He said it was not yet clear about the technology industry, including data mining. The Confederation said that it expects more programs related to cold storage for the development of agriculture sector and chain construction for marketing. He said that the private sector would help in the effective implementation of the budget.
