Kathmandu. Iran fired missiles at Bahrain and Kuwait on Saturday. The incident has escalated tensions in the Gulf region and put an already fragile ceasefire at risk.

According to US Central Command, Iran fired seven ballistic missiles at US targets near the Strait of Hormuz. Six of the missiles were intercepted and one fell short of its intended target.

The Bahraini government called the attack an “open attack” targeting the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain. Kuwait also strongly condemned what it called a “dangerous escalation”.

Explosions were heard in Bahrain’s capital Manama, while explosions continued near Kuwait’s international airport, local journalists said. Residents said there was panic after the sudden explosion.

The incident signals an escalation of the war in the Middle East, where direct and indirect tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate.
