Kathmandu. Nepal imported electric vehicles worth Rs 27.75 billion in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year.
According to the data released by the Department of Customs, a total of 28,960 EVs, including assembled and unassembled vehicles and electric three-wheelers, have entered Nepal. The government has collected Rs 16.23 billion in revenue from import of EVs till mid-June.
According to statistics, China continues to dominate EV imports. A total of 23,782 electric vehicles were imported from China alone. At the same time, India has become the second largest importer of EVs. India has imported 4,318 EVs.
Electric cars, jeeps and vans with a range of 51 kW to 100 kW were imported during the period. Under this category, 4,715 vehicles have been imported from China, 817 from India and 824 from Thailand.
A total of 3,680 vehicles, including 2,230 from China and 1,450 from India, have been imported.
Similarly, electric vehicles with capacity ranging from 101 kW to 200 kW have been imported from China, India, Germany, South Korea and the US. A total of 798 vehicles have entered Nepal under this category.
A limited number of high-capacity EVs, ranging from 201 kW to 300 kW, have been imported. A total of 10 vehicles were imported from Austria, China and the United States, according to the data.
Import of electric three-wheelers is also significant. A total of 6,706 assembled electric three-wheelers were imported from China while 1,828 assembled electric three-wheelers were imported from India.
