Floods and landslides damage Kasuwakhola Hydropower Project

Kathmandu. The flood that occurred on June 22 has caused a big damage to the under-construction Kasuwakhola Hydropower Project at Makalu rural municipality. Information Officer at the District Police Office, Police Inspector Dhan Bahadur Rajbanshi, informed that the flood entered the dam site of the under-construction 45-megawatt Kasuwakhola Hydropower Project at Makalu-2.

The flood swept away loader, mixer, concrete pump machine and 60 tons rod and 500 sacks of cement, according to the company’s manager Deepak Mahato. Similarly, Isuwa Hydropower has also been damaged by the floods. The landslide occurred at several places along the motorway leading from Satang to Dam site.

The landslide has swept away two pipes of 100 millimetres diameter and damaged 200 metres of pipes.

Two houses and one school at risk due to landslide

Two houses at risk of landslide at Makalu rural municipality-1 are at risk. Police Inspector Rajbanshi further informed that the houses of Angtemba Sherpa and Sanu Sherpa of Makalu-1, Mayum, are at risk of landslide. The landslide has also put Singheswar Basic School at risk.

The flood has also swept away the suspension bridge over Isuwakhola river linking Nurbuchaur and Nurbu village, as well as a public water mill and four wooden bridges in Nurbu rivulet.

The flooding of the bridge has caused problems in the movement of the locals. Hundreds of ropanis of cardamom fields and agricultural land have also been damaged by the landslide.
