Kathmandu. The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Baiju Prasad Gupta, chairman of Palhinandan Rural Municipality in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East), on the charge of amassing property worth Rs 34,599,167.
According to the commission, Gupta has earned Rs 3,51,52,620.88 from July 20, 2017 to July 28, 2017 after his election as the chairperson of the rural municipality.
According to the commission, he spent and invested Rs 6,97,81,788.73 during the period.
According to the commission, Gupta spent Rs 3,45,99,167,167.84 more than his total legal income.
During the investigation, it was found that his property details did not match with the actual income and expenditure.
The CIAA has filed a charge sheet against Gupta at the Special Court demanding imprisonment under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059 BS and confiscation of illegal property.
The commission also named Gupta’s father Bansharaj Gupta, mother Dhanmati Teli and wives Sharada Acharya Gupta and Sulochana Gupta as defendants in the case for confiscation of properties purchased by Gupta from undisclosed sources of income.
