Preventing bank director for 5 years for minor offenses: Lawmaker Lima Adhikari

. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Lima Adhikari has said that the Finance Secretary should be kept as an invitee member as per the need to further strengthen the autonomy of the Nepal Rastra Bank.

During the discussion on the bill related to Nepal Rastra Bank in the Finance Committee meeting held on Friday, Finance Minister Khatiwada said that the Finance Secretary should make provision to make the NRB fully autonomous as it could affect the independence of the monetary policy while he is in the board.TAG_OPEN_div_14

She also proposed to ensure the mandatory representation of at least TAG_OPEN_div_12 one woman member on the board of directors of the Nepal Rastra Bank and maintain a seven-member board.

Stating that experts from outside the Rastra Bank should also be included in the recommendation committee TAG_OPEN_div_10 for the deputy governor, she said that the old working style could not be moved forward. He was of the view that the criteria for qualifications and experience proposed for the post of deputy governor should be made practical as it is very stringent.

Lawmaker Adhikari also demanded that the proposed ‘cooling-off’ period for the employees of the Rastra Bank should be extended to two years.TAG_OPEN_div_8
