Kathmandu. Nepal’s trade relations with Argentina, which reached the final of the FIFA World Cup 2026, seem to be imbalanced. Nepal has incurred trade deficit of Rs 105.06 billion with Argentina till mid-June of the current fiscal year. According to the statistics of the Department of Customs, Nepal exported goods worth Rs 15.26 million and imported goods worth Rs 105.08 billion.

Nepal imported the highest amount of soybean oil from Argentina till mid-June of the last fiscal year 2082/83. In the first 11 months, 54 million 96 lakh 57 thousand 404 liters of soybean oil worth Rs 90.11 billion was imported.

Similarly, 778,000 kg of maize, 267,620 kg of dried beans, 171,300 kg of sesame, 124,910 kg of coriander seeds and 75,100 kg of chickpeas were imported from the country. Imports from Argentina include sparkling wine, other wines, laboratory reagents, eye groomers, deodorants, smartphones and others.

However, exports from Nepal to Argentina are very limited. As of mid-June, 32,388 units of electro-thermic appliances worth Rs 11.4 million were exported.

Similarly, 1,756 units of percussion instruments (drums, cymbals, xylophones) worth Rs 2,521,000, woolen carpets worth 54 square meters worth Rs 1.335 lakh, dalmoth, namkin, bhujiya and chamena worth Rs 2,000, other antibiotics worth Rs 2,000 and incense sticks worth Rs 3.1 kg.

According to the statistics, the share of import in the trade between Nepal and Argentina is high while the export is concentrated in a limited number of goods. There is a huge gap in trade between the two countries, especially due to the large import of soybean oil.
