Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra Shah has assured that the government would work to develop the share market and boost the morale of the investors. He made this assurance during a meeting with representatives of regulatory bodies, investors and broker associations for about 1 hour today.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed concern on the mobilization of capital in the capital market, employment generation through capital market and support to the economy, said Ambika Prasad Poudel, an investor who was present in the meeting.

According to him, a long discussion was held on the morale of the investors for the development and expansion of the market. According to Poudel, the discussion was held on the overall market, the work to be carried out by Nepal Rastra Bank in the capital market and the works to be carried out by the Securities Board of Nepal and Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE).

Likewise, discussions were also held regarding the works to be carried out by the Ministry of Finance on taxation, formulation of laws and other issues, Poudel said. After the meeting, former president of the Stock Brokers Association, Priya Raj Regmi, said that the PM urged the government to carry out activities in a way to further bolster the morale of the investors in the market.

He said that the market has been suggested to balance the market by increasing the supply and demand, increase the role of institutional investors and make arrangements to collect tax by adjusting the losses after increasing the tax. He said that the NRB has also suggested to make regulatory arrangements for margin trading through brokers, bring NRNA through fast-track, restructure NEPSE and introduce new instruments of trading in the market.

Regmi also demanded removal of the 10-unit policy to make the market healthy, to introduce book building method and to increase the volume by conducting intraday transactions. According to him, Shah said that after listening to all the demands, he would discuss with the concerned bodies after taking the suggestions received and some works were being carried out.
