Govt to make real bill taker a millionaire Rs 1 lakh per day, Rs 10 lakh a month for two people

Kathmandu. The government is to implement the ‘Lakhpati Scheme’ with the objective of making the Value Added Tax (VAT) system effective and encouraging consumers to take original bills.

As per the scheme, one Nepali will become a millionaire every day and two Nepalese will receive Rs 10 lakhs each as bumper prize every month.

In this scheme, customers who purchase goods or services worth at least Rs 100 from the businesses associated with the Value Added Tax (VAT) and Permanent Account Number (PAN) system will be able to take the original bill. The bill number mentioned in the official bill of payment made through cash or online means will be the basis of selection of the prize.

The government has urged consumers to take the original bill on every purchase. Especially, while purchasing goods or services from hotels, restaurants and other business establishments, it has been urged to keep the original bill safe.

Now, under this scheme, winners will be announced on fortnightly basis on the 16th and last day of every month.

The government has also prepared necessary work procedure for the implementation of the programme announced through the budget for the current fiscal year. The government believes that this scheme will expand the tax net, control tax evasion, increase transparency in transactions, and develop the habit of taking genuine bills among consumers.
