Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Kumar Thapa has welcomed the government’s decision to remove the parity fee in the education and health sectors. He said that the provision was inappropriate from the beginning and that it was the right step to repeal it.

Commenting on the social media, Thapa said that the government’s decision of not implementing the 3 percent equality fee in private education and health sector was welcome.

According to Thapa, not all citizens who choose private hospitals and schools are well-off. According to him, the policy of adding additional fee or tax burden to the service delivery will not solve the problem as it is not a luxury but a compulsion for many to choose private service.

Stating that the private sector is an integral partner in the country’s education and health systems, he said the parity fee is not a policy of equality but a provision to further inequality.

Stating that the government has scrapped the provision accepting the economic and social realities, Thapa urged the government to implement the decision effectively by completing the legal and administrative process.

President Thapa also urged the government to correct the impractical tax and policy mistakes including VAT levied on electricity. He pointed out the need to revise the tax and policies keeping the interests of the common people at the center.
