Transformer thieves rampant in Madhes Province

Janakpurdham. The cases of transformer theft are on the rise in various districts of Madhes province.

According to Kalicharan Yadav, administrative chief of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Madhes Provincial Office, Janakpurdham, 99 transformers have been stolen in the last five years.TAG_OPEN_div_18

He said that the cases of theft have increased as the copper wires used in the transformers are sold at a high price.TAG_OPEN_div_16

Similarly, 35 transformers were stolen from Mahottari, 15 from Bara, 14 from Dhanusha, 10 from Rautahat, nine each from Sarlahi and Siraha, three from Saptari and two from Parsa.TAG_OPEN_div_14 The capacity of the stolen transformers ranges from 15 KVA to 200 KVA.

The theft of transformers has directly affected the farmers.TAG_OPEN_div_12 They have been affected as they have not been able to irrigate on time. The farmers have demanded the authorities concerned to arrest the culprits at the earliest and install new transformers.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Madhes Province Police Office, Janakpurdham, Om Prasad Adhikari said they are searching for the stolen transformers.TAG_OPEN_div_10
