The floods damaged 359 ongoing and 394 MW hydropower projects.

. The floods in Rasuwa and Nuwakot have damaged the ongoing and under-construction hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts. The floods have affected 359 MW of hydropower projects in operation and 394 MW respectively.

According to the Independent Power Producers’ Association of Nepal (IPPAN), the total capacity of the hydropower projects operating in Rasuwa alone is around 236 MW while the capacity of the projects under construction is around 255 MW.TAG_OPEN_div_14 Similarly, the capacity of the projects in operation in Nuwakot is about 123 MW and the capacity of the project under construction is about 52.6 MW.

The floods have damaged access roads, transmission lines and other physical infrastructures of the project.TAG_OPEN_div_12 The damage to the infrastructure has affected the production of electricity in some projects while the work of the under-construction projects has also been affected.

Details of the damage caused by the floods are being collected. The actual loss would be ascertained only after technical assessment of the damage to the project structures, production capacity and the infrastructure under construction.

Rasuwa and Nuwakot are important districts for hydropower production.TAG_OPEN_div_8 The damage caused by the floods in these districts is expected to affect electricity production and increase the construction period and cost of the projects under construction.
