Tensions in the Middle East: US aircraft carrier Lincoln returns home after long deployment

KATHMANDU: The US aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, which is returning home after a long deployment in the Middle East, has passed through the Singapore waterway on Sunday morning.

The warship is expected to stop in Thailand for a port visit. The Lincoln, one of the largest warships of the US Navy, had been supporting the US military campaign against Iran. In its last deployment, it had spent more than 250 consecutive days at sea.

Concerns were raised about Lincoln’s deployment after reports emerged that the mental health of crew members had been affected during the long deployment and that there were shortages of essential supplies, including food and hygiene.

Thai officials said Lincoln would stop in Thailand to give crew a chance to rest and recuperate before returning to the U.S. military base.
